GIS is the acronym of Geographic Information Systems. GIS are Information Technology tools that allow the mangement and processing of every kind of information that can be territory-related.

A largely accepted definition of GIS is “Informatic systems for the acquisition, storing, processing, integration and visualization of data geographically referred to the terrestrial surface”.

More simply, GISs are informatic tools that allow the association of attribute data to geographical data (cartographic representations), being able to manage in a perfectly integrated way alphanumerical, raster and vector data.

Compared to other information tools, GIS technology can put at one’s disposal tools characterized by a high level of communication, very useful to private and public subjects who have the need to visualize ane analyze information to explain events, plan strategies, manage resources and patrimonies that have a collocation on the territory.
